Q. – Tell us about your design process. Do you begin with an initial object or theme as an inspiration?
A. – We love neutral spaces and my son was always drawn to black and white objects so it just seemed like an obvious choice for this space.
Q. – What was the most essential goal you wanted to achieve when you initially designed this space?
A. – Clean, fun, and a space that would grow with our son. We didn’t want anything to “young” and wanted to also involve him in the process.
Q. – Did you face any unforeseen challenges while creating this space? How did you handle it?
A. – The first round of decals we purchased for the wall didn’t stick. So we planned it all out, stuck on the decals and the next morning we checked on the room and they had all fallen off. Lesson learnt not to use cheap decals!
Q. – What was the most exciting/thrilling part of the design process?
A. – Seeing the space completed and my son’s reaction when it was done :).
Q. – Any tips or advice you can share with other designers and parents?
A. – Don’t overthink it. Start with something that you love and design the space around that. Keep it simple and the space will evolve over time.

"Hello! I’m Alycia from Indianapolis, Indiana. I was blessed to marry my high school sweetheart. I’m a stay at home mom to our two beautiful girls. Each day is a new adventure for us! We love DIY projects. It’s an awesome feeling to watch a house transform into a home with our special touch. My love for design turned into a small business and now we make home decor and personalized signs. I love to inspire and share my ideas with others!
Q. – Tell us about your design process. Do you begin with an initial object or theme as an inspiration?
A. – My girls’ playroom before was still very cute but as I started to redo our whole house into a modern farmhouse feel the more and more the playroom, I had just redone, didn’t flow.
I knew it had to be very neutral with wood tones and I also wanted gold accents. So back to the store I went… it was pink and purple before; total opposite!
Q. – What was the most essential goal you wanted to achieve when you initially designed this space?
A. – Definitely to be fun but also functional. I wanted it to be a space my kids love and all the kids love when they come over to our home.
Like most people, we have way more toys than two kids need so the cube organizer does wonders on keeping the clutter to a minimum and that was a must as well!
Q. – Did you face any unforeseen challenges while creating this space? How did you handle it?
A. – More room for sure! I had several other ideas in mind I wanted to do and still would love to one day but because of space that means getting rid of some of the things we have in there now. Our girls still love and play with everything in there so maybe one day 😉
Q. – What was the most exciting/thrilling part of the design process?
A. – All of it!! I love designing/decorating so anytime I get a chance to put my touch on a space and especially a space for my girls to grow up and make memories in really just makes my heart happy!
Q. – Any tips or advice you can share with other designers and parents?
A. – Be free and creative. When it comes to a space you’re designing you really can’t go wrong. Every space is different and each person’s taste is different. It’s what makes the whole progress beautiful and unique. If color makes your heart happy, go for it! If neutrals make your heart happy, go for it! Just be yourself and let your design reflect that.
