Airplane nursery decor works wonderfully for any gender, and with any color theme. From blue skies with white fluffy clouds, to antique fighter planes in steel gray or bright red, there are endless possibilities and ideas for how to approach this project.
Since this themed room is so open-ended, it’s going to help a lot if you get a chance to see what others have done for their baby or child. We went out in search of inspirational pictures from parents who have made airplane nursery decor work for them in amazing ways.
Check out the following pictures which we gathered up from social media and various design blogs. In them, you’ll see all different takes on the airplane theme, from simply adding a few toy planes to the decor, some airplane pillows, or to making the entire bed look like a plane itself.
Whether you are a hard-core DIY enthusiasts, or if you’re just looking for a few personal touches to add here and there, you’re going to find some excellent material to work with here.

Q. β Tell us about your design process. Do you begin with an initial object or theme as an inspiration?
A. β My inspiration usually begins with a theme in mind, and then I hunt for the focal piece π The design usually take flight from there! (Pun intended)
Q. β What was the most essential goal you wanted to achieve when you initially designed this space?
A. β I wanted a wow factor. Something I haven’t seen anywhere else, and to have something unique and special, just like the little boy we were decorating for.
Q. β Did you face any unforeseen challenges while creating this space? How did you handle it?
A. β Lots and lots of tweaking. I can’t begin to explain how many times my poor husband would hang something and I would say, “nope, that looks weird.” Thankfully we are a very go with the flow kind of couple!
Q. β What was the most exciting/thrilling part of the design process?
A. β Seeing it come together, but even better than I imagined. There’s only so much brainstorming one can do, and when it all finally comes together, it’s just a really rewarding feeling.
Q. β Any tips or advice you can share with other designers and parents?
A. β Have a folder or special Pinterest Board and pin everything that inspires you based on the space you’re designing.
Refer back to it, and even if you’re awful at drawing (like me!) scribble down how you want your space to look like, and roughly how much space you’re hoping to fill.
Keep a tape measure with you always as you’re out shopping and remember the dimensions of your space!

A. β A cool, fun room for our firstborn.
Q. β Did you face any unforeseen challenges while creating this space? How did you handle it?
A. β Yes, spacing out the decals on wall. While climbing on a ladder at 8 months pregnant. Stepping back, taking a look. … slowly but proudly. π
Q. β What was the most exciting/thrilling part of the design process?
A. β The Finished Nursery! Also, proud that we finished before the baby came 3 weeks early. π
Q. β Any tips or advice you can share with other designers and parents?
A. β Look for the deals or those sales. Especially Hobby Lobby. I waited a bit for the sales. To buy large letters for the wall. But also saved $80

Q. β Tell us about your design process. Do you begin with an initial object or theme as an inspiration?
A. β My oldest boy has a train themed room, so once we found out we were expecting another boy I thought weβd carry on the transportation theme. Airplanes just seemed perfect!
Q. β What was the most essential goal you wanted to achieve when you initially designed this space?
A. β Itβs important to me that the decor can grow with the child. I wanted a theme and basic colors that wouldnβt require a complete overhaul in just a few years.
Q. β Did you face any unforeseen challenges while creating this space? How did you handle it?
A. β Nope!
Q. β What was the most exciting/thrilling part of the design process?
A. β Iβve loved watching the room grow with him, from crib to big boy bed. The joy he still shows when he gets to sleep in his bed each night.
